Here, up for sale, is one of the rarest pieces of artwork you
will ever find. This is an ORIGINAL hand drawn, colored, and signed piece done by Edward Gein with a full and complete COA.
This piece was drawn by him not long before he died.
it is a view of the hospital he was committed to after his arrest. It comes framed, along with the envelope he sent
it it. (the envelope is badly torn, but still sports the original stamp, postmark, and backing where Gein licked it shut!)
It is from the Jeffery Purcells collection. Mr. Purcells had
corresponded with Mr. Gein for a number of years. Most letters or cards were typed and signed simply "Edward". This
piece however, he signed his full name, "Edward Gein"
In over 20 years of collecting Ed Gein memoribilia, I have
found only this one piece of artwork. He would, on occasion, scrawl a shape on one of the letters or cards, describing
the effigy mounds on the hospital grounds. This is quite possibly the ONLY known piece of artwork ever done by Mr. Gein. Gein
collected postcards wheile he was there, and most likely used the photo postcard of the hospital shown as a reference
for the drawing.
When I purchased this piece several years ago, it was one of,
if not, the last piece they had for sale. All the other pieces had been sold off.
On auction sites today, Gein signatures can rarely be
found, and when they are, they usually sell for several thousands of dollars.
